POCATELLO — The Gate City got some awesome news Saturday when Delta Air Lines announced it would add a second nonstop flight from Pocatello Regional Airport to Salt Lake City starting in September.
“This is great news for Pocatello citizens and for individuals in surrounding areas who use the Pocatello Regional Airport daily,” Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad said. “We have pushed for this added flight for some time and we are pleased it is here.”
The city of Pocatello issued a press release on Saturday relaying the news of the second flight, adding that Delta would also be upgrading its aircraft serving the Gate City’s airport.
Starting Sept. 5, 70-seat Delta Embraer E175 jets will be serving Pocatello Regional Airport with daily flights departing at 7:58 a.m. and 1:25 p.m., the city of Pocatello stated. The Embraers will arrive in Pocatello from Salt Lake City International Airport every day at 12:30 p.m. and 9:57 p.m.
The flights will continue to be staffed by Delta partner SkyWest Airlines.
“We are excited to be able to announce the addition of a second daily flight,” said Pocatello Airport Manager Alan Evans. “The increase in frequency will help alleviate the issues we have heard from many passengers when trying to fly from Pocatello. We can once again offer the convenience of shorter layovers and on-board comfort, including a first-class cabin. We value our long-standing relationship with Delta and SkyWest and appreciate their efforts in listening to our concerns and making this change.”
Pocatello Regional Airport will continue to be served by Delta Mitsubishi CRJ200 jets, which seat 50 people, until Sept. 5.
Tickets for the new flight at Pocatello Regional Airport went on sale starting Saturday and can be purchased at www.delta.com.

Pocatello For Accountable Government Entities
This article is pulled directly from a City of Pocatello press release which intentionally and non-transparently excludes the fact that the City of Pocatello taxpayers will be footing the bill if costs exceed revenue for an estimated (up-to) $1.5M - $1.7M minimum revenue guarantee (MRG) for FY24. Taxpayers have previously paid $800K for the 2022 MRG and another $1.01M was approved for use in calendar year 2023. Through the 1st quarter (calendar 2023 -Jan, Feb, Mar), $346,459 was used for the MRG, leaving $663,541 for April -Dec. It's puzzling that tickets are being sold and an announcement made when no contract or revised MRG agreement for Sept or FY24 has come before the Council for approval for the change in service associated with an expanded MRG (which will likely exceed the 2023 allocation) and the Mayor lacks the authority to allocate funding. These are larger planes with more seats (40% more). Keep a close eye on the budget cycle - the FY24 budget building thus far includes approved (not yet final) 11.4% salary increases for the Mayor and Council + built-in 2% increases for at least 3 more years, 12 new FT positions, along other expense increases. And, it is being built (not yet final) with the maximum statutory allowed 3% "tax ask" increase plus another 1% in foregone.
It also should be said, that the Mayor and City Council have given themselves an 11.5% raise without allowing public comment, as they no longer allow public comments at City Council meetings! It's all about shut up and sit down.
