The "Accidental Texan" is the movie this Wednesday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. in the Bengal Theater at the Idaho State University Pond Student Union. Stranded in Buffalo Gap, Texas, fledgling actor Erwin meets Merle, a veteran oil driller who's about to lose everything he owns. In desperate straits, Merle asks him to pose as his landman to fool the police and a corrupt oil company owner, and as they work together, they both learn about life on the other side of the fence. Fort Worth Report writes, "'Accidental Texan' goes down easy and leaves you feeling satisfied. ... Great casting. Rudy Pankow, Thomas Haden Church, and Carrie-Anne Moss make this an enjoyable watch you'll want to revisit on occasion." Brett Wiscons is the performer this Thursday at ISU's Summer Concert Series at 6 p.m. on the Frazier Hall lawn. With shades of The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Hootie & the Blowfish all over the songs, Wiscons’ unique spin makes his music feel fresh and new. All are welcome to attend.

Looking ahead to next week, step into the musical realm of Connor McLaren for ISU's summer concert on July 18 at 6 p.m. on the Frazier Hall lawn. McLaren's psych-folk melodies intertwine with a warmth reminiscent of a well-worn denim jacket. Mixing folk rock with a love for reggae, McLaren's stylings are music for the soul. All are welcome to attend.

Bengal Theater movies shift back to Fridays with “Origin" on July 19 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Based on the best-selling novel "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents," a woman grappling with tremendous personal tragedy sets herself on a path of global investigation and discovery. Despite the colossal scope of her project, she finds beauty and bravery while crafting one of the defining American books of our time. "Rich in thought, 'Origin' is a dense, forceful masterwork, and, quite simply, the most radical film of DuVernay’s career," writes Robert Daniels of Indiewire. Coming soon is Montana's Shakespeare in the Park at ISU's Frazier Hall lawn, with "Hamlet" on July 30 and a "Winter's Tale" on July 31 at 6 p.m. each night. These annual outdoor performances bring the classic stories of Shakespeare to life and all are welcome to attend for free. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy.
