“Gran Turismo” is the feature this Friday through Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Bengal Theater at the Pond Student Union, with a matinee Saturday at 4 p.m. also. Follow the true story of a team of unlikely underdogs — a working-class gamer, a former race-car driver and an idealistic motorsport executive — who risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. ISU men’s basketball opens its season with an exhibition match against Simon Fraser at 6 p.m. Saturday in Reed Gym. The ISU team was picked to finish fourth in conference in the pre-season polls and enter the season with high hopes. Tickets run $17 for adults, $12 for youth and senior citizens, and free for ISU students with Bengal ID, and can be purchased online at idahostatetickets.com or at the Reed Gym ticket office beginning one hour before the game.

The ISU Choral Invitational Festival will present a concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Jensen Grand Hall at the Stephens Performing Arts Center. The evening will feature performances by the ISU Women’s/Treble Choir and the ISU Chamber and Concert Choirs. In addition, high school choirs will deliver individual performances, adding their own unique voices to the evening. The Massed Choir, led by Packwood, will conclude the concert. This year’s festival pianist is ISU alumnus Gabriel Lowman. General admission is $10, ISU faculty and staff tickets are $7, pre-college age student tickets are $5, or free with local valid school ID, and ISU students get in free with valid Bengal ID.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of the “Return of the King,” the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy will be shown at ISU’s Bengal Theater on successive Sundays, beginning this Sunday with “Fellowship of the Ring” at 2:30 and 6 p.m., followed by “The Two Towers” on Nov. 5 at 2:30 and 6 p.m. and “Return of the King” on Nov. 12 at 2:30 and 6 p.m. The story tells of Middle Earth and the smallest of people, the Hobbits, who are drawn into a clash between good and evil as the world of humans, elves and dwarves face the dark forces of Sauron. The 2:30 p.m. shows will be the original theatrical versions with subtitles, while the 6 p.m. shows will be the extended editions of the movies without subtitles.
