POCATELLO — The Idaho State University Graduate School invites all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to the ISU Research and Creative Works Symposium in partnership with the ISU Office of Research and the Kasiska Division of Health Sciences on Wednesday. This annual event is an opportunity for students of all disciplines to showcase and present their scholarly and creative works. The symposium will be held at the Earl R. Pond Student Union Ballroom in Pocatello and at the Sam and Aline Skaggs Health Science Center in Meridian. Admission is free to all. This year, over 140 students will participate, representing over 56 programs across ISU.

Pocatello agenda:

— 1 to 3 p.m.: Graduate oral presentations, Pond Student Union Little Wood River Room.

— 1 to 2:45 p.m.: Undergraduate/PharmD posters, Pond Student Union Ballroom.

— 3 to 5 p.m.: Graduate poster session, Pond Student Union Ballroom

— 3 to 5 p.m. Creative works, Pond Student Union Ballroom.

— 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.: Undergraduate/PharmD oral presentations, Pond Student Union.

— 5 to 5:30 p.m.: Celebrate Bengal Giving Day, Pond Student Union Quad Lounge.

— 6:15 p.m.: Awards and reception, Pond Student Union Ballroom.

Meridian agenda:

— 1 to 5 p.m.: Oral presentations, Room 509/686.

— 3 to 4:30 p.m.: Poster presentations, main foyer.

— 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Welcome, keynote and awards via YouTube Live, Room 686.

Tracy Collum, the interim dean of the graduate school, will provide the opening remarks for the awards ceremony, and introduce keynote speaker Cathleen Tarp, a Spanish professor in the department of global studies and languages. Winners will be announced at 6:15 p.m. in the ballroom, followed by an awards reception.

Numerous research days have been hosted across the ISU campus for many years, including KDHS Research Day, Undergraduate Research Day and a successful decade of the Graduate Research Symposium. This year, these units are hosting a combined event that will encompass undergraduate and graduate-level work from all across campus.

This exciting new rendition of showcasing ISU research will also include cash prizes for all winners. A $1,000 cash prize is granted to the winning presenter(s) in each subject category for graduate students and $500 for the top three awards for undergraduate/PharmD students. Students have a wide variety of options to present their research; literature reviews, research projects, capstone projects, case studies, grant proposals, humanitarian trips, class papers and other related scholarly or creative work all qualify. Students may participate in one or more of the three categories: poster presentation, oral presentation and/or creative works. Over 70 faculty and staff judges will score students on presentations and content to determine the top winners of each category.

In past symposiums, award-winning research has come from all categories: biology, business, health sciences, education and more, from experiments to develop radioimmunotherapy for synovial sarcoma to discovering how QAnon has affected familial relationships.
