A bull elk was shot and left to waste near May likely between Dec. 24 and 27 and Idaho Fish and Game officers are seeking help to find the person who shot it.

The carcass of a 5-point bull elk was found east of Hooper Lane about 250 yards east of the Pahsimeroi River, Mike Demick with Fish and Game said. 

There are no bull elk hunts open in that area, Fish and Game Conservation Officer Matt Cahoon said. Cow elk hunting is open there, he said, and 150 cow elk tags have been issued. Cahoon is hopeful one of those tag-holders has information that could allow Fish and Game personnel to track down the poacher. 

People who have information about the dead bull elk are asked to call the Salmon Fish and Game office at 208-756-2271, the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 800-632-5999 or to file a report online at idfg.idaho.gov/poacher. A reward is available to anyone who provides information that leads to the poacher being cited for the offense.
