BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Lane Kiffin era at LSU began with a resounding 51-10 victory over Clemson. Sam Leavitt complemented his 113 yards and two touchdowns rushing with 230 yards and a TD passing, Dilin Jones rushed for 113 yards and two TDs and edge rusher Jordan Ross returned an interception for a score for No. 11 LSU. LSU finished with 632 yards on offense while handing Clemson its worst loss in about 30 years. LSU led 51-3 before Clemson surpassed 100 yards of total offense while driving for its only touchdown with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Marcel Reed threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns in just over three quarters to help No. 8 Texas A&M roll to a 50-0 win over Missouri State. Reed was replaced by Brady Hart with about 13 minutes left and the Aggies up 40-0. Isaiah Horton had four receptions for 76 yards. His first catch as an Aggie was a 15-yard grab for a touchdown on the opening possession. The Aggies thoroughly dominated despite not playing their best at times. Missouri State, which is in its second season in the FBS, was outgained 505-67 and had just four first downs to 35 by Texas A&M.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The much-anticipated first game of the Lane Kiffin era at LSU was delayed by lightning and did not include two former NFL signees whose ongoing effort to return to college football has brought a lot of attention — and no shortage of criticism — upon the Tigers’ lightning-rod coach. Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris were left off the roster in advance of Saturday night’s game against Clemson in Tiger Stadium. The move to leave Wright and Harris off the roster avoided —- or perhaps just delayed — a confrontation with the Southeastern Conference, which had passed a rule banning players who’d signed with NFL teams, only to see that rule put on hold by a court in Louisiana.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jadan Baugh ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns, and Florida opened the Jon Sumrall era with a 66-21 win over Florida Atlantic. Aaron Philo added 275 yards passing and four total scores as the Gators won their seventh consecutive home debut for a new coach. Sumrall entered the sold-out Swamp amid fire, smoke and strobe lights. He delivered a fiery pregame speech on the field and then really showed what he’s about with a dominant win that was never in doubt. Caden Veltkamp accounted for two TDs and two turnovers for the Owls.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Blaze Berlowitz threw for 149 yards and ran for 45 yards and a touchdown as Vanderbilt beat Austin Peay 28-9 in the Commodores’ season opener Saturday night ended with 2:16 left after lightning near the stadium stopped play. Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea and Austin Peay coach Jeff Faris huddled with the referees and officials on the field. Then the public announcer said the game was over with the stands mostly emptied before fireworks went off. Berlowitz made the first start of his career with some of the biggest cheers were reserved for freshman quarterback Jared Curtis who flipped his commitment from Georgia last December.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Arch Manning passed for 305 yards four touchdowns, including two to Cam Coleman, and No. 5 Texas eased into the season with a 59-7 win over Texas State. Graceson Littleton’s 59-yard fumble return touchdown put Texas ahead 28-0 in the second quarter. Coleman played his first two seasons at Auburn and was one of the top transfers in the country when he signed with Texas. Transfer running back Raleek Brown scored two touchdowns for Texas. The Longhorns host No. 1 Ohio State next week.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Gunner Stockton passed for three touchdowns, Nate Frazier ran for three scores and No. 3 Georgia overwhelmed Tennessee State 63-3. The temperature was 101 degrees at kickoff, and the heat likely was a factor in some fans leaving Sanford Stadium at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs already led 28-0. Georgia scored touchdowns on its first five possessions, all with Stockton at quarterback. Frazier scored on a 48-yard run on his first carry and added a 14-yard touchdown run on his second carry. Stockton completed 15 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Keelon Russell accounted for 335 yards and touchdown, and No. 13 Alabama opened the season with a 48-10 victory over East Carolina. Russell, a sophomore making his first career start after beating out Austin Mack during training camp, ran for 86 yards and a touchdown. He also threw for 249 yards, including 130 of those to Ryan Coleman-Williams. Russell directed five consecutive scoring drives to start the game, and Alabama finished with 480 yards and 27 first downs. East Carolina managed just 162 yards and five first downs.
