Rich County (UT) 71, West Side 53

    West Side played neck-and-neck with undefeated Rich County, but the Pirates ultimately fell 71-53 Saturday night in Randolph, Utah.

    “Rich is a very good team,” said West Side head coach Tyler Brown. “We hung with them for three quarters. They hit five 3-pointers and pulled away.”

    Josh King led the way for the Pirates witha game-high 23 points. The Rebels outscored West Side 20-9 in the the fourth period.

    “The kids played better than they have,” Brown said. “We took that step forward tonight. I’m proud of them for coming through for three quarters.”

    West Side (1-4) hosts Marsh Valley Saturday at 7 p.m.

Malad 55, Marsh Valley 46

    The Dragons picked up their second win over the Eagles of the season with a 55-46 victory Saturday in Malad.

    Zack Jeppsen and Nishon Neal each scored 19 points for Malad while Jake Barker led the way for Marsh Valley with 16 and Tyler Dunn had 13.

    “It’s an up and down game when these two teams play,” said Malad head coach Sheldon Vaughn. “There were a lot more turnovers than either coach wanted. That’s the way it is.

    “The second half we went back inside and were a lot more effective. We got to the free-throw line and made some clutch shots there.”

    Malad (5-3) welcomes West Jefferson Friday at 7:30 p.m.

North Gem 63, Ririe 53

    The Cowboys picked up a road win Saturday evening, defeating Ririe 63-53 in Ririe.

    Tucker Lish dropped 17 points for North Gem while Jay Seivers had 15 and Cache Davids had 10.

    “The big guys inside did a great job rebounding,” North Gem head coach Charley Kator said of the win. “Trevor Simons hit five out of six free throws in the fourth quarter to help us seal it.”

    North Gem (4-3) next plays Friday when it hosts the same Ririe team at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Grace 59, West Side 27

    The Grizzlies left Dayton with a 59-27 smothering of West Side Saturday evening.

    Grace held the Pirates to single digit scoring in three quarters, allowing 10 points in the third.

    “We came out well and played great team defense,” said Grace head coach Kevin Smith.

    McKenzie Windley led the Grizzlies with 20 points.

    Grace (8-2) next plays at Malad Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Snake River 54, Malad 27

    The Panthers had little trouble with the Dragons in a 54-27 win Saturday night in Moreland.

    Snake River had three players in double figures as Alyssa Crumley scored 14 and Brylie Bair and Scout Baldwin had 12 apiece.

    “We were really balanced scoring tonight,” said Snake River head coach Rich Dunn. “What really got us there were our transition baskets, which came from our defense. It was solid from start to finish.”

    Paityn Tripp led Malad with seven points.

    Snake River (5-6) hosts Sugar-Salem Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Soda Springs 44, Preston 36

    The Cardinals picked up a 44-36 win over the Indians Saturday evening in Preston.

    Soda Springs got 16 points from Markee Campbell in the win and the team was more productive in the paint.

    “Our girls worked hard putting pressure on them,” said Soda Springs head coach Wade Schvaneveldt. “Our bigs score more than their bigs. For as small as we are, we outrebounded them by 12.”

    The Cardinals (8-5) host Bear Lake Friday at 7:30 p.m.
