Grace 48, Idaho City 26

The Grizzlies punched their ticket to state with a 48-26 smothering of Idaho City Saturday afternoon at Mountain Home High School.

Grace held its opponent to single-digit points in each quarter.

“We came out with intensity and played great team defense,” said Grace head coach Kevin Smith.

McKenzie Windley led the way for the Grizzlies with 16 points. Kate Skinner added 10.

“We went back to team basketball today,” Smith said. “I’d say eight or nine kids showed up. They played unselfish ball.”

Grace (16-7) faces Notus at 8 a.m. Thursday at Columbia High School in the first round of the 1A D-I state tournament.

The Dragons’ season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Mustangs 38-35 in a state play-in game at Burley High School.

Saige Smith and Brooke Sorensen scored 11 points apiece for Malad, which finishes the season with a 12-14 record.

It was close throughout, but a last-second shot fell short for the Dragons.

“We didn’t get the calls we needed to and we got into a situation where we lost our composure a little bit,” said Malad head coach Bob Sorensen. “We turned the ball over in crunch time. We had a look with under 10 seconds, a good look with a good shooter, but it didn’t go in.
