    At the YMCA Invitational, Elijah Armstrong had a busy day.

    First, the Pocatello High School sophomore won the 1,600-meter race, edging out Timberline’s Andrew Rafla by 16 hundredths of a second.

    Armstrong’s time of 4 minutes, 16.43 seconds set a new meet record. Then Armstrong took the 3,200, finishing in 9:28.54.

    But he was not quite done yet.

    Stepping into the 4x400, Armstrong, helped Pocatello finish second in the finals, just behind Weiser and in front of Madison.     

    “We were just impressed with what the boys could do, and how they stepped up and did what we asked them to do,” said Pocatello head coach Rick Call.

    Along with Armstrong’s top finishes, Colton Belnap took fourth in the 300 hurdles (39.81) and Nick Karn was third in the high jump after clearing 5 foot, 10 inches.

    Pocatello track and field is at the Pocatello City Meet Friday at Highland High School.
