Sometimes, the points just come. And for Century’s Henny Hearn, they came in bunches.

    Hearn rocked the hardwood with 25 points to lead the No. 2 Century Diamondbacks to a 43-38 win over the Rigby Trojans Wednesday night at Century High School.

    Hearn overwhelmed Rigby’s posts, especially in the first quarter, where she scored Century’s first 14 points. But the spot where Hearn is showing progression should strike fear into opposing defenses: She’s extending her shooting radius.

    “Henny’s really worked on her outside game, and it showed in the first quarter,” said Century head coach Chris Shuler. “She was out 15, 16 feet hitting those shots, and it was awesome. That’s what Henny can do every night.”

    She made it look easy in the first period. It was simple: She wrestled for position with her defender, caught the pass, turned and shot — clockwork.

    But where Hearn was shooting the gym’s lights out, the rest of the D-backs struggled from the floor. The open looks were there, but shots weren’t falling. Sarah Holt notched 13 points. The only other Diamondback to register a score was Lindsey Smoot with three.

    But the fact that the shots were available tells Shuler the offense is working. The shooting percentage is fixable. When it’s mended, he believes the Diamondbacks will be hard to stop.

    “We had wide-open looks,” Shuler said. “We didn’t hit them, but we will. We’ll hit those, and that tells me that we’re running the offense. The offense is working. We just got to be able to step up and hit some more shots.”

    The shooting hardships on the floor allowed Rigby to hang right with Century. When the Diamondbacks looked like they would begin to run away with the game, there were the Trojans clawing back. Powered off the shooting of junior Tori Anderson, Rigby kept the score tight.

    But Anderson was the lone scoring threat for the Trojans. The next highest Rigby scorers were Hannah Shippen and Randi Abbott, each with six points. They and the rest of the Trojans were suffering from a rim that appeared to be nixed, keeping them away from Century’s lead and never coming to within five points of the D-backs in the second half.

    “It wasn’t the prettiest game, and I knew Rigby coming in,” Shuler said. “They’re well coached. They’re really disciplined. ... We knew it was going to be a tough game.”

    Smoot led the Diamondbacks in rebounds with eight. Hearn and Holt each nabbed four apiece.

    Century (6-1, 2-0 4A 5-6 District) hosts Bonneville Friday.
