After a rough road loss to Grace Friday night, the Malad Dragons rebounded with a big 45-31 win over the visiting Preston Indians Saturday.
“We just never got off the bus (Friday),” said head coach Bob Sorensen.
But against the Indians, Aubrey King had 11 points and nine rebounds and Brooke Sorensen chipped in eight points and nine boards to help ensure the Dragons their second win of the season.
Malad (2-3) travels to American Falls Thursday and then heads to Bear Lake Saturday.
Pocatello 47, Hillcrest 43
The Pocatello girls’ basketball team needed to reverse its momentum after losing two straight games.
Behind Paige Durrant’s 15 points and Carly Parker’s 12, the Indians did just that by beating the Hillcrest Knights 47-43 in Idaho Falls Saturday night.
“We played a really good first half of basketball,” said Pocatello head coach Laraine Cook. “I was really big in stressing rebounding tonight and they started the game going after the boards hard defensively.
Pocatello, (2-4 overall, 1-0 4A Fifth/Sixth District) hosts Blackfoot at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Marsh Valley 51, Sugar-Salem 41
The Marsh Valley Eagles girls’ basketball team stayed perfect with a 51-41 victory over the Sugar-Salem Diggers Saturday in Sugar City.
No Eagle scored in double figures, but the state’s top-ranked 3A team extended its winning streak to 30 games after nine girls had at least two points, including Kami Hansen team-high nine.
“ The girls came out strong after the third quarter,” said Marsh Valley head coach Kyle McQuivey. “We got rolling and they didn’t.”
Marsh Valley, 5-0, travels to Soda Springs Wednesday. The Eagles beat the Cardinals 39-35 Nov. 14 in Soda Springs’ only loss of the season.
