POCATELLO — The Runnin’ Rebels didn’t look like a team that’s only had two days of practice.

Pocatello’s Double-A Legion squad pounded Minico 12-2 and 15-2 in their doubleheader Wednesday at Halliwell Park. Both games were stopped after five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Runnin’ Rebels racked up 16 hits and scored in every inning of game one. Dylan Mansanarez went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, Trevor Bowers gave up two hits with eight strikeouts in four innings on the mound and five Pocatello batters collected multi-hit games.

“We have a lot of talent, so that’s good,” said Runnin’ Rebels skipper Dan McCaskill. “Makes it easy on me.”

After Minico’s first two batters singled and came around to score on an error and a passed ball, Bowers struck out four straight and allowed one Storm player to reach base over the next three innings. He finished with one earned run and one walk allowed to go with eight Ks.

“When he’s pounding the zone like that, he’s hard to hit,” McCaskill said. “They hit him I think a total of 45 feet.”

The Runnin’ Rebels answered with three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to RBIs by Mansanarez, Kam Farnsworth, Cal Norby and Conner LaMont. Minico committed two errors, suffered a passed ball and a wild pitch in the inning.

CC Burrup, Mansanarez and Farnsworth strung hits together in the second and Pocatello took advantage of another Minico error to widen the lead to 6-2.

The Runnin’ Rebels sprayed at least two hits in every inning and totaled less than three once, in the fifth when the game ended via mercy rule on LaMont’s RBI single.

Mansanarez stepped up to the plate with a runner on base three times and picked up an RBI on each occasion. He added a leadoff double in the fifth for good measure.

“He’s just natural,” McCaskill said. “He has a sweet swing. He doesn’t swing at bad pitches and he throws his hips and hits that ball hard. ... Just a stud.”

Ethan Hunt went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Farnsworth was 2 for 3 with two runs and LaMont and Burrup each went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Pocatello (2-0, 2-0 Area C) plays St. George at home Saturday in a doubleheader.

Game two

The Runnin’ Rebels’ bats stayed hot in the second game, as they took down Minico 15-2 in five innings.

Chase Teter went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Kade Hall was 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Both players rapped a triple. Hall and Teter just completed their freshman seasons at Treasure Valley Community College.

Pocatello tallied five extra-base hits to Minico’s none.

Brandon Georgeson started on the mound and went four innings. He held Minico to two runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Georgeson plays at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington.

“We have a lot of talent and it showed tonight,” said Runnin’ Rebels coach Dan McCaskill. “It’s promising and it’s exciting for the future.”
