Highland takes second in Bear-Cat Wrestling Tournament

    In the Bear-Cat Wrestling Bear-Cat Invitational, the Highland Rams took second place overall out of 15 teams.

    “Overall, we wrestled well,” said Highland head coach Kolby Cordingley. “We had some kids fight back after tough losses.”

    At 120 pounds, Dakota Buffaloe took first place and Tanner Cordingley finished second at 106.  

At 285, Hunter Diehl was third.

    “It was definitely a good learning experience,” Cordingley said. “Now we can move on from here and continue to get better.”

    Highland hosts Pocatello Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Poky goes 9-0 at High Country Conference Duals

    Over a two-day period, the Pocatello wrestling went 9-0 and took third overall in the High Country Conference Duals at Bonneville High School.

    Alex Iszler (220), Luke Kirby (106) and Andre Aguinaga (120) all went 9-0 over the weekend.

    “We were a pinning machine,” said Pocatello head coach Todd Praska.

    Kade Smith (98) and Braxton Jensen (152) were both 8-1 and  Brandon Swisher (HW) and Anthony Baca (113) were 7-2 for the weekend.

    Pocatello won all nine of its duals but took third as a team based on total team scores.

    The host, Bonneville was first and Blackfoot took second.

Girls’ basketball

Challis 47, Grace 45

    The Grace girls’ basketball team dropped a 47-45 heartbreaker to Challis Saturday evening at home.

    “We played a little inconsistent tonight,” said Grace head coach Kevin Smith. “Our intensity wasn’t quite where it should be.”

    The Grizzlies were led by Danielle Prowelle’s 14 points while Stephanie Lloyed added 11.

    “At times they all had a good game, but at times they took some possessions off,” Smith said.

    Grace (7-3, 2-1 1A D-I Fifth District) hosts North Gem Tuesday at 7 p.m.

North Gem 30, Rockland 28

    The North Gem Lady Cowboys took down Rockland 30-28 Saturday evening in Bancroft.

    Despite a slow start, only scoring nine points in the first half, Nort Gem was able to rebound for the victory.

    “We were down 16-9 at the half,” said North Gem head coach Cody Hansen. “We hadn’t played well. It was pretty rough. But in the third quater we played well.”

    “We were ahead at half and we came out in the third quarter and we turned over the ball,” said Rockland head coach Vern Nelson.

    The Bulldogs were led by Savannah Farr’s 20 points. Maegen Christensen score nine for the Lady Cowboys.

    North Gem (3-5, 3-0 1A D-II Fifth District) plays at Grace Tuesday at 7 p.m. Rockland (3-5, 1-2) is at Sho-Ban Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Boys’ basketball

Grace 64, Challis 45

    The Grace boys’ basketball team handled Challis at home, winning 64-45 Saturday evening.

    Led by Colton Kladis’ 25 points, the Grizzlies picked up their second 1A D-I Fifth District victory of the season. Wyatt Kendall and Nels Jensen added 12 points apiece.

    “We had some good scoring across the board,” said Grace head coach Rory Lloyd. “The kids came out really aggressive after a loss last night to Soda Springs. It was a conference game that we needed to win.”

    The Grizzlies shut down Challis’ offense for most of the night as well, only allowing the opponent to score in bunches late in the fourth quarter.

    “It was solid defense for us. It was a good night for us,” Lloyd said.

    Grace (4-2, 2-0) plays at Butte County Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
