Rockland 39, Rimrock 33

    The Rockland Bulldogs opened the Dietrich Tournament with a 39-33 win over Rimrock Friday evening.

    Rex Permann scored a game-high 23 points for Rockland while Justin Robinson had six and brother Colton had six.

    “I think our kids played pretty good defense and the offense came through in the second half,” said Rockland head coach Scott Lish. “(We) started three sophomores. We had the jitters but came through.”

    Permann had a double-double as he added 13 rebounds. Justin Robinson had 15.

    The Bulldogs (1-0) play the winner of Oakley/Dietrich today.

Preston 44, West Side 41

    Preston defeated West Side 44-41 Friday evening in Malad in what turned into an entertaining game for those in attendance.

    The Indians led by as many as 17 before the Pirates stormed back.

    “I thought we played a good fourth quarter,” said West Side head coach Tyler Brown. “They switched their defenses on us in that first half. Nothing was going right for us.”

    “We fought back,” he said. “The fans got their money’s worth tonight.”

    Mason Lemon scored 14 points for the Pirates while Tate Fuller added nine. Taylor Smaley led the way for the Indians with 11.

    “We just didn’t do enough to win and they did,” Brown said.

    West Side (0-2) hosts Grace Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Bear Lake 60, Star Valley 53

    Porter Wallentine poured in 25 points in a come from behind 60-53 victory over the Star Valley Braves in Montpelier Friday night.

    “Defensively, we came out early and played well,” said Bear Lake head coch Brandon Carlsen. “We had shots falling and built an early lead.”

    But in the second quarter, Star Valley outscored the Bears 22-11 and took the lead after half.

    “We didn’t panic,” Carlsen said.

    Bear Lake hit some shots and outscored the Braves by seven in the fourth to pull away late.

    The Bears are 2-0 and play at Rich County, Utah, Thursday.

Marsh Valley 47, South Fremont 46

    In a close game the Marsh Valley Eagles outlasted South Fremont 47-46 Friday night in Arimo.

    Gage Parker had 17 points and Tristin Nichols had 14 to lead the way for the Eagles.

American Falls 63, Kimberly 51

    After a rough loss to Malad, the American Falls Beavers returned to home and ran away from Kimberly Bulldogs 63-51 Friday night at home.

    Jordan Schutt had 24 points and the Beavers move to 1-1 for the season.

Sho-Ban 65, Murtaugh 48

    In Sho-Ban’s first game of the season, the defense was great, the offense was just OK and the Chiefs rolled to a 65-48 road win over the Murtaugh Blue Devils.

    Andre Graves and Kilee Bache each had 14, Talon Samora added 13, Leonard Edmo chipped in 12 and Christian Silk finished with 10.

    “Our effort defensively was 110 percent,” said Sho-Ban head coach Lester Stewart said.

Grace 61, Malad 43

    Stephanie Lloyd scored 24 points for the Grizzlies as they took down Malad 61-43 Friday night in Grace
