Take a second and try to remember an awkward moment in your life.

    You know, the ones where you try your hardest to melt through the floor or become invisible?

    Some of us have more of them than others, but it’s a fact of life that times of embarassment or shame cannot be avoided. Whether it’s caused by one’s own mistakes or stupidity or that of others, at one point or another you will have such a moment.

    In the last few weeks, I have found myself in a pair of such situations that I very much wish I could have found my way out of very quickly — both of them press conferences at Idaho State.

    Ever since the shoving situation involving Idaho State head football coach Mike Kramer became public, ISU's weekly pressers have been weird.

    The first one began with Athletic Director Jeff Tingey announcing that Kramer had been suspended for one game for shoving Bengal receiver Derek Graves to the ground during an Oct. 3 practice. Then the coach got up front to hold his regular session with the media. Somehow we were all supposed to act as if everything was normal.

    It doesn’t help that ISU has handled the whole thing poorly. How much public support would the university garner if it just got in front of the whole thing, held a press conference and discussed what was happening?

    Instead it’s either swept under the rug or pushed aside in a hope that it will go away.

    But as I sat there trying to discuss with Kramer the state of his football team, all I could think about was the shoving incident.

    Frankly, there’s not much left to talk about when it comes to ISU’s porous run defense. What I really want to know, what fans, boosters and alumni want to know, is how is the team reacting to the distractions. Why can’t we discuss that?

    Instead we go back to “what is it going to take for you guys to not give up 1,000 rushing yards to Zach Bauman on Saturday?”

    With news breaking Thursday night, I can only imagine how much more awkward things are going to be when it comes time for Kramer's next press conference.

    When can we talk about the situation? Why did it take so long for the university to issue the suspension of Kramer?

    How about answering some questions about why Graves, the victim in the shoving incident, was suspended from the team?

    It reminds me of my little sister’s dog, how he sticks his head under the bed and thinks that if he can’t see us, we can’t see him. If Idaho State doesn’t talk about something, no one will notice it, right?
