POCATELLO — Colton and Quinn Carbol birdied their last four holes Sunday to remove any doubt who was winning the Justin Hebblethwaite Memorial Scramble at Riverside. The Pocatello brothers carded their second straight round of 10-under-par 62 to finish at 124, four shots ahead of two twosomes who tied for second at 128 — Matt Kunze-Randy Watson and Brian Atkinson-Brock Buffat.
Lee Hebblethwaite told the assemblage of golfers after play had ended that next year’s scramble, the 20th since son Justin died of leukemia, will be the last.
“Justin was just 20, and next year will be our 20th memorial tournament,” he said. “And I want to thank everyone for playing.” He was embraced by many who were present.
Colton Carbol’s eagle putt on the par-5 fourth hole enabled the brothers to keep their lead Sunday by a stroke at the turn, and they cruised on the back nine with five birdies in six holes.
Another brother act, Ryan and Ty Pearson, won the First Flight by five shots over Tom and Jeb Harrison with a 17-under-par 127. The Second Flight went to Kyle Waford and Timothy Wilkes with 16-under-par 128. Don “Rooster” Schroeder and Duke Tauscher won the Third Flight by three shots at 132, and Irv and Sam Patterson ran away with the Fourth Flight with a net score of 120.
