The Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels split two games Friday at the Boise Summer Classic. Pocatello dropped a nine-inning heartbreaker to Vallivue 5-4 before beating Boise 8-2.

In the loss, Vallivue tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh and walked off winners in the ninth. The Poky pitching trio of Kade Hall, Trevor Bowers and Saben Rodriguez held Vallivue to six hits with eight strikeouts and five walks, but the Runnin’ Rebels mustered four hits of their own and left seven runners on base.

In game two, Pocatello racked up 15 hits and Dylan Mansanarez threw a complete game.

The Runnin’ Rebels blew open their 3-0 lead with a five-run fifth inning to stake an 8-0 advantage.

Mansanarez gave up four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. He added two hits and an RBI at the plate.

Ethan Hunt went 3 for 5 and CC Burrup was 2 for 4 with three runs knocked in. Six Poky payers contributed multiple hits.

The Runnin’ Rebels (27-11) are 2-1 after the first two days of the Boise tournament. Saturday they play the Treasure Valley Stars at 9 a.m. and the Centennial Cannons at 2 p.m. The top six teams make it through to Sunday.

Single-A Legion Baseball

Blackfoot 5, Kimberly 4 (9)

Blackfoot’s Single-A Legion squad eked out a 5-4 victory over Kimberly on the road Friday. Originally scheduled to be a doubleheader, the teams agreed to play one nine-inning game because of spotty weather.

The score was knotted at 3-3 through the seventh inning and Blackfoot plated one in the eighth and another in the ninth to grab a 5-3 lead. Kimberly put the potential tying run on third in the bottom of the ninth, but Blackfoot pitcher Daden Jorgenson shut the door to preserve the win.

“We made two or three really good defensive plays in the eighth and ninth inning,” said Blackfoot coach Liam Pope.

Emerson Stucki started on the mound for the Broncos and tossed seven innings before giving way to Jorgenson, who worked the final two.

Stucki also went 1 for 2 at the plate with three RBIs and Jeffery Johnson was 2 for 5.

Blackfoot is now 3-11 in district play with six league games remaining. The Broncos face Bear Lake in a doubleheader Wednesday on the road.
