Maria Sanchez (American Falls) – Santa Clara University

American Falls High School graduate Maria Sanchez took time away from her college season at Santa Clara to play for the Mexican Women’s National Team in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship, which took place Oct. 6-7.

The forward played in all three matches for Mexico, which went 1-2 in the October tournament.

Sanchez scored the final goal on a header in a 4-1 win against Trinidad & Tobago on Oct. 7 in Cary, North Carolina. She also launched a scoring sequence by rocketing a ball at Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Kimika Forbes before Charlyn Corral got the rebound and tapped it in for a goal to put Mexico ahead for good, 2-1.

Sanchez has rejoined Santa Clara (12-2-1), which hosts Portland on Friday.

Brodee Bocek (Century) – Cleveland State University

Century High graduate Brodee Bocek won a title in Cleveland State’s 13th annual Fencers Attacking Diabetes tournament.

The Cleveland State freshman placed first in Division II men’s epee after going 7-3 in pool play before winning three more matches in a single-elimination bracket to clinch first place. He won his title match 15-13 against Alex Schultz.

Cleveland State plays in the Case Western Duels on Nov. 3.

Cassidee Whitehead (Highland) – Treasure Valley Community College

Highland High graduate Cassidee Whitehead has immediately found her place in the Treasure Valley soccer lineup.

The defender has started 13 matches in her freshman season, including a 0-0 home tie on Sept. 15 against Columbia Basin that was her team’s second shutout of the season. Columbia Basin had six shots on goal and 16 shots.

Treasure Valley (3-11-1, 1-9-1 Northwest Athletic Conference – East) hosts Wenatchee Valley on Friday.
