GOODING 52, AMERICAN FALLS 15

American Falls was outscored 36-7 in the second half en route to a 52-15 first-round loss in the 3A playoffs Thursday at Gooding.

The Beavers were down 16-8 after scoring in the last second of the first half on a drive that took much of the second quarter. Jose Cervantes capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.

But American Falls was unsuccessful on an onside kick at the start of the third quarter, triggering its downhill slide.

“(Gooding) just had so many weapons,” Beavers coach Cory Hollingsworth said. “It was kind of like we had to have everything go our way to finish a drive.”

American Falls finished the season 3-6.

“I was proud of the kids,” Hollingsworth said. “They played a lot better than last week and played with a lot more courage.”

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 49, ROCKLAND 12

Rockland’s season ended Thursday with a 49-12 loss at Lighthouse Christian in the first round of the 1A DII playoffs.

Rockland trailed 40-0 after the opening quarter.

“We had problems moving the ball,” Bulldogs coach Gerry Hunter said. “They were a good team. We gave up some big plays.”

Zach Hunter and Zack Porath each had a rushing touchdown for Rockland, and Levi Farr nabbed two interceptions. The Bulldogs finished the season 3-6.

“The kids were very upbeat. They never gave up,” coach Hunter said. “We’ll regroup and we’ll be ready to hit it next year.”
