Since 2014 Alumni having been asking when and if the “I” is going to be resurrected in its rightful place, on Red Hill. Alumni, you can finally relax. President Satterlee has seen the importance of tradition and has cut through all of the red tape and thanks to the family of the late Dr. Lawrence H. Rice for funding the project, is finally getting the “I” on Red Hill replaced. It has been missing for too long. The “I”, the columns, the Swanson Arch and Holt Arena have been the most identifiable landmarks on ISU’s campus for several years. The “I” was there for nearly 100 years! To replace the ”I” with any other symbol would be a mistake.

If people would like to see the modern symbol of the “I” overlaid by an “S” placed somewhere highly visible, I would like to suggest that they form a committee and figure how to raise the funding for that symbol to be painted on both sides of the roof on Holt Arena. It would be highly visible from the Interstate on the East side and the city on the west side.
