POCATELLO — Burris, Nisenbaum, Curry & Lacy (BNCL Law) and Snake River Criminal Defense will host a public vigil honoring the life of Victor Perez on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at 703 N. Harrison Ave., Pocatello, Idaho 83204.

This vigil comes as the community approaches the one-year anniversary of the shooting of Victor Perez in his own backyard. Victor was shot by Pocatello police on April 5, 2025. In the year since, his family has continued to live with the profound loss of his presence in their daily lives. Organizers say the vigil is intended not only to honor Victor’s life, but also to show the Perez family that the community has not forgotten him and continues to stand with them.

The vigil will bring together family, community members, and counsel for a time of reflection, prayer, remembrance, and support. Attendees will be invited to gather in solidarity, hear from speakers close to the case and the family, observe a moment of silence, and place flowers or candles at the memorial.

About the Speakers

John Burris

John Burris is a nationally recognized civil rights attorney with more than four decades of experience representing victims and families in police misconduct and excessive force cases. His work has included some of the country’s most high-profile civil rights matters, including litigation arising from the Rodney King beating, the Oakland “Riders” scandal, and the death of Angelo Quinto. Most recently, Mr. Burris and his firm secured a $7.5 million settlement for the Quinto family, a case that drew broad public attention and was followed by significant California reforms concerning restraint practices and the use of “excited delirium” terminology.

James Cook

James Cook is an attorney with Burris, Nisenbaum, Curry & Lacy, where he works on civil rights and police misconduct litigation. As part of the legal team representing the Perez family, Mr. Cook has helped bring national civil rights experience and strategic litigation support to this case.

Jennifer Call

Jennifer Call is the founding attorney of Snake River Criminal Defense in Pocatello, Idaho. A former prosecutor and longtime public defender, she has more than a decade of experience in Idaho’s criminal justice system and has built a reputation for thoughtful, strategic advocacy. Born and raised in Pocatello, Ms. Call continues to serve her home community through criminal defense and civil rights work.

Dr. Jennifer Gallup

Dr. Jennifer Gallup is an educator and scholar whose work has focused on autism, disability, and the support systems individuals with autism need to thrive in their homes, schools, and communities. Her professional work has centered on improving understanding, inclusion, and meaningful support for individuals on the autism spectrum. Her presence at the vigil reflects the broader importance of recognizing and valuing neurodivergent lives in our community.
