Divorce isn’t necessarily something anyone looks forward to.

But in the state of Idaho, things can at least go smoothly with as few hiccups as possible. According to a press release issued by completecase.com — an online divorce preparation website that provides complete divorce documents — Idaho is the best state in the country to get a divorce.

The analysis done by the website factors in couples who were in agreement with each other, divided their assets fairly and parted ways cordially and amicably. According to the study, couples in Idaho are more likely to have an uncontested divorce, and some even admit to remaining friends afterward.

Idaho joins Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont as the best states for married couples to part ways. The states in which divorces go south are Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Florida.

Stratton Laggis, an attorney at Kumm & Reichert law firm, speculates that Idaho might be the best place to get a divorce in part because of the services provided.

“The attorneys know the case, and they can give good advice to their clients and get a good settlement for both parties,” Laggis said. “... I know that the judges and attorneys put a lot of time and effort into all those programs, and they want to make sure they do them right and get people the best results they can.”

Laggis said that many divorces begin in tension and conflict. But as the process progresses, attorneys can begin to work with the couple, and things start to go a little smoother.

“As you work through the case, you can work on figuring out each party’s specific issue and address that issue,” he said.
