POCATELLO — Southeastern Idaho Public Health confirmed 11 additional deaths due to COVID-19, as well as 193 new confirmed and probable cases, for the week of Nov. 23-29.

Of the new cases, 89 occurred in Bannock County, 51 occurred in Bingham County, 21 occurred in Franklin County, Caribou County had nine cases, Oneida and Power counties each had eight cases, Butte County had six cases and Bear Lake County had one case. 

SIPH spokesperson Tracy McCulloch said the trend of new cases has been generally positive recently. 

"Our cases are going down and we just hope it continues to do that," McCulloch said, adding the percentage of samples tested in laboratories that are confirmed to be COVID-19 is also going down. 

Idaho has yet to confirm a case of the new and concerning omicron variant, but McCulloch said an Idaho laboratory has already requested that the state start conducting genetic sequencing of its samples to help detect any omicron cases that may surface locally.
