At 2:45 this morning Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Idaho Falls Fire and Ammon Fire officials responded to a fire at 4335 Amber lane In Ammon.

  The fire was contained to the basement and a stairwell in the home.

  While dealing with the fire, Officers located two deceased female adults, two deceased children, and a male with the self inflicted gunshot wound.

   The male was unconscious and breathing when he was located in the home. He was transported to Eastern Idaho Medical Center where he died

  The investigation revealed that the male inside the home was Gaylin Leirmoe, A 26 year old from Iowa. Leirmoe entered the home. He committed the homicide by shooting the women and children.  He set the basement of the house on fire. He then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

      The two ladies inside the home were Michelle Kern,  22 years old of Ammon, and Melinda Kern , 19 years old of Ammon. There were two young children inside the home, a three year old boy and an infant son.

Michelle Kern and Gaylin Leirmoe were the parents of the two children.

Kern and Leirmoe had been separated for several months prior to this occurrence.
