POCATELLO — NeighborWorks Pocatello is set to hold a ribbon cutting and open house for its new Park Meadows Senior Apartments at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Mark Dahlquist, executive director of NeighborWorks Pocatello, said the apartment complex has 49 units and is intended for people ages 55 and older with a low or moderate level income. It was built through a partnership with Desert Ridge Investments Inc.
The ribbon cutting will be held at the Park Meadows Senior Apartments, located at 555 Park Meadows Drive just north of Prime Time Auctions in south Pocatello.
“We know there are affordable housing challenges in our region,” Dahlquist said.
Dahlquist said most of the units in the apartment complex are one bedroom and one bathroom, but there are some with two bedrooms.
“The majority are one bed-one bath,” he said. “There are maybe 10 that are two bed-one bath.”
Dahlquist said Park Meadows was made possible thanks to a low income housing tax credit award.
“Every year there are low income housing tax credits awarded to entities that want to put together something like this,” he said. “It’s been years since Pocatello was awarded a project.”
Dahlquist said the area where Park Meadows was built was in need of revitalization.
“That lot sat vacant for decades,” he said. “I’m really happy that section of town is getting some development.”
Dahlquist said the project wouldn’t be possible without the partnership with Desert Ridge.
“We couldn’t have done it without that partnership,” he said. “The Chamber of Commerce Chiefs are holding a ribbon cutting, and that will be followed by an open house where people can look inside.”

Awful location in terms of pollution and noise from traffic, and Prime Time Auctions next door. Two main drags on both side, - the 4th and 5th Avenues. Because Pocatello does not have any emission program, vehicle exhaust will be in your lungs and eyes day-and-night, no matter which way the wind is blowing that day. And it will be getting worse overtime as the city is growing and the used cars and trucks are getting older, bigger and more expensive. Monster trucks, clunkers, the Harley-Davidsons, and teen-age racers will be roaring at the other side of your wall while your are sleeping. Be ready for a several hours of a Prime Time auctioneer loudspeaker chant at 1 PM every Sunday and Wednesday year-round. Merchandise inspection starts at 9 o’clock the days of auction, and potential buyers will be filling the parking lot and then racing auctioned vehicle with a “lot” number on windshields in circles around your building for hours, testing coughing-and-puffing used motors.
