IDAHO FALLS—Police arrested a 32-year-old man early Friday morning after he allegedly struck a woman with his car as she tried to stop him from driving drunk.
Leland “John” Brown of Idaho Falls was charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest after allegedly hitting the woman with his car just before 1 a.m. in the 300 block of J Street, Idaho Falls police reported.
The victim, age 35, told police that she and her husband were trying to keep Brown from driving because he was intoxicated.
The woman told police that Brown and his wife had both been drinking and had gotten into an argument prior to the incident.
Brown declined the pleas from the woman and her husband to give up his keys and struck the woman with his car when he drove away, police said.
The woman said she was knocked down by Brown’s vehicle and then contacted police. She was not seriously injured.
A short time later Brown returned to his residence where police located him and questioned him about the incident. Police described Brown’s behavior as “erratic” as they spoke with him.
He was arrested and booked into Bonneville County Jail.
