POCATELLO — A Pocatello man who allegedly crashed into multiple vehicles while intoxicated and chased a family through a parking lot was arrested Wednesday evening.

Eloy Cuch, 30, has been charged with felony driving under the influence and felony aggravated battery. He was also cited four times for leaving the scene of an accident.

According to court records, Cuch is being held at the Bannock County jail on a $60,000 bond.

Pocatello resident Andrew Mikesell said that at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday, his wife Jordan was driving him, their 1-year-old child and their dog southbound on South Fourth Avenue near the Bengal Creek Apartments when they spotted a vehicle approaching them head-on.

The vehicle, which authorities said was a Volkswagen Jetta being driven by Cuch, was traveling the wrong way on South Fourth Avenue, a one-way street.

Jordan, who was behind the wheel of the family’s Subaru, pulled over as far as she could to prevent a collision, but they were still struck by Cuch.

After the Volkswagen backed up and rammed the Subaru a second time, Andrew said he waved Cuch into the parking lot of the Bengal Creek Apartments. As they pulled into the parking lot, Andrew said Cuch continued ramming his family’s vehicle.

“He was so aggressive and he seemed to be trying to hit us,” Andrew said, noting that at the time he believed Cuch was severely intoxicated.

Fearing for their safety, the family contacted 911 and drove through Bengal Creek’s parking lot to try to escape.

Andrew said Cuch followed his family as they drove around the apartment complex twice. Every time Jordan saw another motorist in the area, she honked the car horn to warn them to steer clear of the dangerous situation.

During the pursuit, Cuch struck an unattended vehicle in the parking lot.

To buy some time before the police arrived, Jordan exited the parking lot and drove to Triple L Towing and Repair across the street so the family could hide behind a parked vehicle.

Luckily, Andrew said Cuch then gave up the pursuit and drove back onto South Fourth Avenue, again heading the wrong way on the one-way street. By then, the Volkswagen’s headlights were shattered and the front bumper was hanging from the vehicle.

Soon after the chase through the parking lot, Pocatello police arrived on scene and apprehended Cuch near Sullivan’s Mobile Home and RV Park.

A Pocatello Fire Department ambulance also arrived on scene, but police said nobody was transported to the hospital.

Despite escaping any physical injuries, Andrew said his family was shaken up by the whole ordeal.

“My wife was crying,” he said. “Everybody was afraid.”
