REXBURG — The food in Rexburg must be too good to pass up, at least for this persistent moose. For the third time in less than a week, Rexburg police responded to reports of the same moose getting too close for comfort to residents.

    Before 8 a.m. Saturday, the moose returned to Rexburg again, including walking into at least one apartment complex near Seventh South and Pioneer Road.

    Law enforcement officers surrounded the moose at a safe distance at one point, with Rexburg police officer Troy Dameron firing a “cracker shell” to try and drive it to a safer location. A cracker shell is designed to explode

with a loud bang at the end of travel, scaring away an unwanted animal without hurting it.

    After running away from officers, the moose finally settled under some trees at a home behind the LDS stake center on Seventh South.

    Idaho Fish and Game officers were unavailable to relocate the moose, so law enforcement chose to leave the moose alone early Saturday. Plans were in the works to gather some more officers and try to safely move the moose away from populated areas.
