PINGREE — Members of St. John’s Chapel are once again planning to sell homemade egg noodles at their Christmas Bazaar fundraiser next month.

But first they have to make them and they could use some help because there will be oodles of noodles involved.

They’re inviting people of all ages and faiths to participate, as well as expert noodle makers and those interested in learning how to make pasta for the first time.

“Everyone is invited to help us with this huge task,” a church news release states.

Organizers say they will be making the noodles at the church, located on Sheep Trail Road, about a half mile from Highway 39 in Pingree, a community in Bingham County, on Nov. 3, 10 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Volunteers aren’t required to stay for all seven hours, but organizers hope they will be willing to help out for as long as they can. Lunch will be provided.

Church member Muriel Judge says they’ll be using 192 dozen eggs and roughly 20 bags of flour, weighing 25 pounds each, to make the noodles. The latter was donated by Grain Craft in Blackfoot.

“We’re thrilled,” Judge said about the donation.

Each day, participants mix the dough in food processors and then knead it a couple of times before slicing it into discs and putting it through a pasta maker and cutter, Judge said. After that, they hang the noodles to dry overnight and then lay them out to finish air drying over the next week.

Then the process starts all over again.

Bonnie Barker, the church’s secretary and treasurer, has participated in the effort for several years and she looks forward to it.

“We are all working together. There are people from the community that come in and help us, too, to make the noodles,” she said. “There’s good camaraderie.”

And they end up with good results.

Judge said the finished noodles are “fantastic” and can be used in a variety of dishes, including Alfredo and chicken noodle soup.

Many of those who buy the noodles at the bazaar purchase them as gifts, she said.

“They have a long shelf life because they are dried,” Judge said.

St. John’s Chapel will sell the egg noodles in 1- and 2-pound packages at its Christmas Bazaar, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the church on Dec. 7.

Judge said they will also sell a variety of tasty foods — chicken noodle soup, beef stew, nachos, chili, hot dogs, cinnamon rolls and pie — along with craft items, candies, jellies and breads.

In addition, organizers say they will raffle off a quilt, afghan, sports camera and $50 in cash during the upcoming bazaar.

“This is our big money maker of the year,” Judge said, adding that the proceeds are used for church maintenance and to support local, state and international charities.

Everyone is welcome to attend the bazaar next month, organizers say.

In the meantime, they hope people will come help them make noodles.

“Come out and join us for a fun time,” Barker said.
