POCATELLO — When Kathy Horsch noticed a “for rent” sign outside of the Kress building in Old Town recently, she knew it was time to have a sit-down talk with her two daughters, Holly Horsch and Tiffany Bulger.

    “I had been thinking about opening up a business along Main Street for awhile,” Horsch said. “I knew that Tiffany was interested in managing a coffee shop, and I thought the open spot would be a perfect fit for all of us.”

    The elder Horsch is interested in greenery, while Holly is a photographer.

    On April 18, 2012, the three family members combined forces to debut Blossoms and Beans. The store is located at 150 S. Main St.

    “Most of our decor is garden-related,” Holly Horsch said. “We also have some decorative coffee sack pillows made out of burlap available for purchase.”

    All of the canvas wrapped photos that adorn the walls of Blossoms and Beans were taken by Holly. Several of them were captured when she lived in Greece for a short period of time, while others depict local settings.

    “I think it’s great that each of us play a different role here,” Horsch commented.

    Kathy Horsch has always had a knack for keeping house plants alive, according to Tiffany Bulger.

    “She (Kathy) has a greenhouse at her home,” Bulger pointed out. “She’s always liked to have different plants in the house growing up.”

    Customers can choose from dozens of unique house plants at the store, some of which are imported from Hawaii and California. Plants such as Bird of Paradise, rubber trees, Sago pondweed plants, lipstick plants, hindu rope plants, Hoyas, Bamboo, money trees, air plants and Bonsai.

    “We offer tips on how to care for each plant,” said Kathy Horsch. “I too am learning more from people who come into the store.”

    Representing the beverage department, Bulger indicated that the “Feel Better” tea blend has been a big hit lately.

    “I have found that we are becoming well-known for our teas,” Bulger said. “Nonetheless, we have a variety of both teas and coffees to choose from. We sell teas and locally roasted coffees in bulk too.”

    The local drip drinks can be topped off with creamer obtained at the Pocatello Co-Op. Organic and caffeine-free blends are also available at Blossoms and Beans.

    In the future, the trio hope to host a tea party tasting event of sorts.

    Their regular business hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
