BLACKFOOT — The hosts of Classy KLCE-FM radio show “Mike & Liza In The Morning” shaved their heads recently as a way of showing support and raising awareness about breast cancer.

    The entire month of October is national breast Cancer Awareness month.

    “Early detection is key,” said host Liza Raley in a news release. “If this act convinces just one woman to get a mammogram, we’ll consider it a success.”

    According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. This year alone, 1,000 women in Idaho will be diagnosed with breast cancer. 

    “It seems like everyone we talk to has been effected by breast cancer ... whether it’s a friend, a family member or even themselves,” said host Mike Nelson. “We wanted to show our support for these women, raise awareness about the disease and offer information about early detection.”

    KLCE will host a number of breast cancer awareness-related events in October, including one where discounted mammogram certificates will be handed out.
