POCATELLO — Irving Middle School will celebrate 100 years of education in April 2025 with an open house featuring memories from past students, teachers and administrators.

Stuart Johnson, principal of Irving Middle School, said Irving currently has students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The school is located at 911 N. Grant Ave. in Pocatello.

“We have around 730 kids that attend here currently,” Johnson said.

Johnson said it feels amazing to have the school reach this milestone. He was also principal at Tyhee Elementary School when it hit the century mark.

He said he’s looking forward to celebrating Irving’s 100th birthday.

“It’s just a cool building and so much history and people have a ton of pride,” Johnson said. “It’s awesome to talk to folks and they tell stories about back in their day.”

Irving’s first school year was in 1925. A birthday celebration for the school is being planned for April. They hope to invite the oldest Irving alumni living in the community to come to the celebration and share their memories of the school.

“We wanted to see if maybe we could get in contact with some of those people and have our yearbook staff interview them,” Johnson said.

School officials are also asking anyone in the community with any objects from Irving’s past to bring them so they can put them on display at the celebration. These can be anything from yearbooks to letterman jackets or uniforms.

“We’ll have displays from every decade,” Johnson said.

Current students at Irving will give tours of the building during the celebration. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the school and the changes it has gone through over the years.

“Former students, administrators and teachers are welcome to come,” Johnson said.

He added that an exact date for the celebration is still being finalized but it will definitely be held this coming April.
