Flames. Smoke. A partially blocked interstate for nearly 90 minutes.

A vehicle fire sparked a brush blaze along Interstate 15 north of Malad on Saturday afternoon, creating traffic delays on the freeway for nearly an hour and a half, according to Idaho State Police.

The incident began to unfold around 2 p.m. when a 30-year-old Idaho Falls man traveling southbound on Interstate 15 reported that the engine compartment of his 2025 Ford F350 pickup had caught fire, authorities said.

He pulled onto the shoulder but the truck quickly became engulfed in flames.

The fire spread from the truck to the toy-hauler trailer it was pulling, then jumped to the surrounding brush in the median and along the right shoulder of the interstate, according to state police.

Firefighters worked for nearly an hour and a half to extinguish the fire and clear the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.

Idaho State Police were assisted at the scene by the Downey Fire Department, Oneida Fire District, the Idaho Transportation Department, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and the Bannock County Sheriff's Office.
