POCATELLO — Pocatello Police discovered a military hand grenade on Monday while conducting a search warrant for drugs at 724 S. 19th street in Pocatello near Holt Arena. Bomb squads from both Mountain Home Air Force Base and Idaho Falls were immediately called to the scene.
Both bomb squads responded to the incident and the Idaho Falls unit brought the necessary equipment to handle the device. The Mountain Home unit conducted the work at the scene and was able to secure and safely dispose of the explosive on Wednesday.
Pocatello Police Lt. Paul Manning confirmed the hand grenade was taken to the Bannock County Landfill where it was detonated and disposed of safely.
The undetonated grenade was uncovered as officers combed the Pocatello residence during the drug search which yielded small quantities of marijuana and methamphetamine.
As of Wednesday evening the Pocatello Police Department has identified a suspect but has not released a name. No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
