FORT HALL — A brush fire that started at about 1 p.m. threatened homes before it was contained, according to officials with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

A spokeswoman for the tribes said the fire started on the North side of “No Name” Road and threatened homes to the west. It reportedly grew to 5 acres before it was contained.

Fort Hall, Blackfoot Bureau of Indian Affairs Wildland Fire crews responded, and the fire was contained to the same field in which it started. The fire was apparently started by sparks from a lawnmower mowing weeds in a ditch bank.

”Even though the weather is cooling down, the fire danger is still very high,” Fort Hall Fire Chief Brian Briggs said in a press release.
