Five people were treated at Caribou Memorial Hospital and released after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 34 about 10 miles north of Soda Springs around 10:20 a.m. Saturday, according to Idaho State Police and the hospital.

The accident happened when John Crook, 62, of Orem, Utah, was driving a Ford pickup and horse trailer south on Highway 34, state police report.

Crook failed to make a curve, crossed the center line, and struck a northbound Hyundai Sonata.

The Sonata was driven by David Eley, 51, of Providence Forge, Va. Eley had three passengers in his vehicle: Janet Eley, 51, of Providence Forge; and Taylor and Laura Eley, both 24, of Midvale, Utah.

The impact caused the pickup and horse trailer to separate and roll down an embankment. There was no horse in the horse trailer.

Three ambulances were called to transport the accident victims to the Caribou County Hospital in Soda Springs.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
