First Presbyterian Church of Pocatello will share some special news with the public on Sunday, Dec. 15.

    Although the information may not be new, church officials believe the story is still as important today as it was when the event occurred many years ago. That’s why they’re inviting the community to come hear more about the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ during this holiday season.

    The Christmas program, “Live from Bethlehem,” will take place at the church, located on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Lewis Street, at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The service will feature roughly a dozen youth, who will share the story of Jesus’ birth.

    “It’s like a newscast set in Bethlehem. (They’ll be) reporting on the travelers,” said Cindi Coffland, a Sunday school teacher at the church.

    The program will include some music and acting, she said.

    The annual event gives the youth a chance to share their talents and build confidence as they perform in front of the congregation, Coffland said.

    “We have a wonderful group of young people,” she said.

    Adults also enjoy the service and the chance to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas through the fresh and honest perspective of the youth, Coffland said.

    Although the children present a different program every year, all of their presentations focus on the Christmas story.

    “Whenever we do a pageant, the bottom line (is always) the birth of Jesus. It’s presented in different ways, but it’s the same message,” Coffland said, adding that she hopes people walk away from this year’s service with a sense of wonder and renewed faith.

    She encourages people to attend the program on Sunday.

    “They will have a warm experience that will put them in the mood for Christmas,” she said.

    Following the youth’s presentation, the public is invited to attend the Christmas Tea, organized by the Presbyterian Women. There is no cost to attend that event, which will take place around noon.

    Betsy Loxterman, co-moderator of the Presbyterian Women, said the tea will include a variety of appetizers and drinks.

    “It’s a nice time to visit with one another and celebrate the holiday season,” she said.
