INKOM — As the ski season winds down at Pebble Creek Ski Area, it’s time once again for the annual Dummy Race event.

“We build a great big jump and people mount their dummy on skis and send it down,” said Mary Reichman, general manager of Pebble Creek. “The dummy is judged on style, big air, staying on the course, staying intact and how close it gets to the target.”

Entry fee is $15 and the top prize is $100. It’s hosted on Saturday and those wanting to enter can contact Pebble Creek Ski Area at 775-4452, or prior to the event.

Those wanting to enter should get there before noon to take full advantage of their opportunity to win. Judging for the people’s choice award will be held from noon to 1:45.

At that time, the dummies are then taken up to the top of the course for the 2 p.m. launch.

Anyone can enter a dummy, but it must meet certain criteria. It cannot be more than 100 pounds and must be between 3 feet and 6 feet tall. The width can be no more than 3 feet and the length can be no more than 8 feet. It can only be mounted on skis or snowboards, nothing else.

No propulsion or incendiary devices are allowed. The dummy must use gravity alone. Also, Reichman says no dummy with obscenities will be allowed in the competition.

Reichman said Pebble Creek’s ski season is slated to end March 31, and for those thinking about getting in a few final days on the mountain, conditions remain good.

They received 5 new inches of snow at the top of the mountain and 1 inch at the lodge, bringing totals to 63 inches up high and 19 inches down below.

“It is spring ski-conditions, so it starts out hard and softens up with the sun comes out,” Reichman said. “The groomers have been doing a great job of making some nice routes down the mountain.”

For those who have yet to grab next year’s season ski pass, they are available for just $259 until May 1. If you didn’t by a season pass this year, purchasing next year’s pass now will allow you to ski the remainder of this season for free, Reichman said.

Also, Pebble Creek is currently running specials for the end of the season. The Aspen course is free to use from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., when Pebble Creek closes for the day.

You just need to go to the ticket window to get that free lift ticket.
