IDAHO FALLS — Intermountain Gas crews repaired a natural gas leak in downtown Idaho Falls around 5 p.m. Monday after a construction crew accidentally struck the gas line a few hours earlier.
That prompted an evacuation of businesses near the alley between Park and Shoup avenues.
The evacuation order was lifted at 5:15 p.m., said Idaho Falls Fire spokeswoman Hayli Egbert. Power was returned to the buildings, and downtown reopened to the public.
Idaho Falls Fire Department personnel had arrived on scene and closed B Street between Park and Shoup avenues and a couple of intersections to traffic as a precaution. An alert was also sent to cell phones within the affected area.
Intermountain Gas crews shut off the natural gas line and repaired the leak, allowing business occupants to return.
