JEROME — A Pocatello man, Wirake Charles, 36, was killed in an accident near the Bliss Rest Area on Interstate 84 west of Jerome Friday about

7:24 p.m., according to a report from Idaho State Police.

State police said Charles was driving west in a 2003 Dodge Durango and Timothy Brand, 56, of Tooele, Utah, was also westbound in a 2013 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

Charles attempted to pass Brand on the median side shoulder, lost control of his vehicle and struck the semi, according to ISP.

Charles’ vehicle continued off the right shoulder and rolled, coming to rest near the fence at the Bliss Rest Area.

Charles was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene.

A seat belt was worn by Brand; however, Charles was not wearing a seat belt.
