Bear Lake County sheriff's deputies and other area law enforcement gave the raspberry to a group of teens during the recent Raspberry Days Festival held in Garden City, Utah, just across the border from Fish Haven.

    Dozens of underaged drinkers found themselves in a jam with 13 misdemeanor charges and 22 traffic citations issued. Charges included underage consumption of alcohol, possession of spice, driving under the influence and violating the county's beer keg ordinance.

    According to the New-Examiner, young people attending the festival have held parties in Idaho's Fish Haven Canyon for several years and the parties have brought a slew of complaints and ended with a pile of garbage on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management property.

    Held in Garden City since 1984, the festival celebrates the harvest of the raspberry crop during August and brings tourists from all across the U.S. and the world to Bear Lake.

    To deal with the party problem this year, the News-Examiner reported that the Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office requested assistance and 30 officers from the Forest Service, BLM, Idaho State Police, Idaho Fish and Game and Lemhi, Madison, Bonneville, Bingham and Bannock counties responded. Drug dogs were used.

    With 400 people attending parties in Fish Haven Canyon, officers reportedly had contact with about 250 of them.

    Two felony arrests for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance were made.

    “We appreciate the response that we received from the other agencies and plan to continue to have a large group of officers to deal with the problems caused during Raspberry Days,” Bear Lake Sheriff Brent Bunn told the News-Examiner.
