MONTPELIER — The annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, a beloved tradition in Montpelier, will take place on Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Oregon Trail Center.

This year marks the third year the service will be hosted at the center, 320 N. Fourth St., after moving from the Bear Lake Presbyterian Church, which closed its doors in 2022.

The service, entitled "Keeping Christ in Christmas," has been a fixture in the community for over three decades. Originally held at the Bear Lake Presbyterian Church on Hillside Drive, the service brought together people from many different faith traditions as well as those without church affiliation. All who attended shared in the spirit of unity, finding the service to be a meaningful way to celebrate Christmas.

When the Bear Lake Presbyterian Church closed in 2022, the decision was made to move the service to the Oregon Trail Center. Now in its third year at the center, the service has continued to grow in popularity, drawing people from all walks of life to participate in a beautiful and peaceful celebration of the Christmas season.

The service will feature the singing of traditional Christmas carols, the telling of the timeless Christmas story, and a heartfelt candlelight moment. The evening will culminate with the lights being dimmed and attendees lighting their candles while joining together to sing "Silent Night," creating a powerful and memorable experience.
