PRESTON — Residential wood burning ordinances are being activated in Franklin County due to increased particulate levels and air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups of people.

    Those at risk include people with respiratory problems including asthma and lung ailments. Air quality is expected to continue to degrade through Sunday.

    Residential wood burning activities are restricted to certified or exempt stoves only. Outdoor open burning is also prohibited while the ordinances are in effect; these burn bans will remain in effect until air quality has improved.

    The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality said the restrictions will remain in effect until the air quality in Franklin County improves.

    Air quality in Pocatello and Chubbuck remains good with particulate levels well below the moderate level. As a result there are no restrictions on residential wood burning in this area.
