A local man is behind bars after shooting a rifle multiple times during a series of incidents on Wednesday night, the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office said.

Walter Inskeep, 34, of Springfield, is currently being held at the Bingham County Jail in Blackfoot on three counts of aggravated assault.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred Wednesday night in the Pingree area.

The first incident was a confrontation between Inskeep and a local man and local woman in a Pingree parking lot, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Inskeep and the man had a heated argument which resulted in Inskeep firing multiple rounds from a .22-caliber rifle, authorities said. No one was wounded but the gunfire prompted the man to go to a Pingree area home to retrieve firearms and then return to the parking lot with the guns and another adult male, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The adult female then left the parking lot with the two men, who drove her to the Pingree area home where the firearms had been retrieved. Inskeep got in his vehicle and followed them to the residence, reportedly shooting his rifle at their vehicle along the way. No one was wounded by the gunfire, authorities said.

Inskeep opened fire on the residence after the three had entered the home, the Sheriff’s Office said. It does not appear that any of the gunshots struck the home.

One of the adult males in the residence then fired a .45-caliber pistol in the direction of Inskeep, who had been joined by another adult male at this point in a separate vehicle, authorities said.

The gunshots from the pistol struck this other adult male’s vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said. None of the gunfire during the incident at the home resulted in anyone being wounded.

At this point the Sheriff’s Office responded to the home but Inskeep fled before deputies arrived, authorities said.

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office notified all nearby law enforcement agencies about Inskeep and he was pulled over late Wednesday night by Power County sheriff’s deputies on Interstate 86 near American Falls.

He was arrested without incident and subsequently transported to Bingham County Jail.

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night’s incidents remain under investigation.
