POCATELLO — A local author is holding a book signing event on Saturday for his new book about science and religion.

Trent Stephens, author of the book “Science and the Old Testament,” said the book signing will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Walrus and Carpenter bookstore at 251 N. Main St.

“This is my tenth book on science and religion,” Stephens said. “I’ve written 30 to 35 other books as well.”

The new book is about various stories found in the Old Testament and what science tells about each. Stephens said the book goes into detail about what archeology can tell about each story.

“What I’m doing is taking the Bible stories,” Stephens said. “There’s 52 chapters. One per week. I’ve taken 52 stories from the Old Testament.”

Stephens wrote these books because he is someone who is both a scientist and religious.

“I am an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Stephens said. “I’ve been active my whole life, and I’m also a scientist. I’ve been an active scientist my whole life.”

The book was published back in August, and this is the first signing Stephens has held for it. Once it’s over, he has more plans for promoting his book.

“I’ve got a podcast interview next Saturday,” Stephens said. “Then next spring, I will be launching a larger promotion for several of my books.”
