POCATELLO — Step back in time and explore our community’s rich heritage. The 3rd Annual Pocatello Historic Home Tour is set for Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is facilitated by NeighborWorks Pocatello and its six targeted neighborhood associations. Tickets are $20 each. Proceeds will support projects within the boundaries of these six neighborhood associations — all located in the central area of Pocatello.

It promises to be an unforgettable event filled with history, community and fellowship. The purchase of a ticket will grant tourgoers access to eight historic homes and two historic churches. Tour stops this year are clustered within and around the College Neighborhood. A featured stop will be at the recently renovated Idaho State University president’s house.

Drive down the numbered streets in Pocatello near the ISU campus, and dozens of amazing houses start to pop up, especially along and near South 7th Avenue, where the President’s house and so many other beautiful, well-maintained homes are located. The ISU President’s house is an example of Georgian architecture. True Georgian architecture refers to the time when a series of four King Georges ruled England from 1715 to 1830. The house, built in 1917, is considered a Georgian revival, meaning that an old style was revisited and constructed.

Tourgoers can choose their adventure by boarding the free trolley from Caldwell Park (located at 7th & Lewis) or driving or walking to each location on their own. The flexibility will allow participants to explore at their own pace and see everything that interests them. An informative brochure will be provided, which will include a map and a brief historical description of each site.

Not only will participants get to tour several historic homes and landmarks in Pocatello, but they will also be contributing to impactful neighborhood projects. This is more than just a tour; it’s an investment in the community’s future.

In addition to the locations listed above, tourgoers will have the option of stopping at Bonneville Commons, which is the site of NeighborWorks Pocatello’s newest housing development. Several of the new homes at this location will be open for touring. A complimentary lunch will be served for all ticket holders with chances for door prizes. The lunch will be served in the center courtyard area near the newly constructed pergola, which was built in the shape of a railroad roundhouse. Bonneville Commons is located at the site of the former Bonneville School at 8th and Lander.

“Last year’s tour was a great success, and we hope attendees will enjoy it even more this year,” said Katie McCarthy, NeighborWorks Pocatello director of community engagement and marketing. “This is a fantastic community event that allows people to step inside a piece of Pocatello’s history.”

Tickets for the Historic Home Tour can be purchased in advance at the NeighborWorks Pocatello offices located at 206 N. Arthur during any weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. before Sept. 14 or online at nwpocatello.org/historic-home-tour. For those wishing to purchase tickets the day of the event, they will be available at Caldwell Park under the NeighborWorks Pavilion.
