POCATELLO — The City of Pocatello has announced its plans to hold an open house to discuss plans to build a new skate park.

According to a news release from the city, the open house will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. It will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers located on 911 North Seventh Avenue.

Brad Siedlecki of Pillar Design Studios and Artisan Skateparks will be at the meeting to discuss the proposed park and the different features it may have. People who come to the meeting will have an opportunity to provide input about the proposed design and features.

Construction for the new park is expected to begin in the spring. It will be located at Optimist Park on North Eighth Avenue and East Sherman Street. It will be about 7,000 square feet when it is completed. {p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}Anne Butler, Parks and Recreation Director, said the project is being funded with ARPA money.{p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}”The skate park contract is for $500,000,” Butler said. {p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}Once construction starts in the spring, it will likely take the whole summer to complete the project. The park is expected to open sometime in the fall.{p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}”We’ll probably have a grand opening in the fall,” Butler said.{p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}Many people in the community have been asking for a new skate park for a long time now. The City Council has been looking for ways to provide recreation for the people of Pocatello.{p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}”It’s come up repeatedly over the years,” Butler said. “It was just the right time for it.”{p class=”Paragraph SCXW234273934 BCX0” lang=”EN-US” xml:lang=”EN-US”}Butler encouraged everyone with a passion for skateboarding to attend the meeting.
