POCATELLO — In recognition of National Nutrition Month in March, Phi Upsilon Omicron, an organization made up of students in nutrition and dietetics programs at Idaho State University, will host a Nutrition Fair on March 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is hosted by the student group in partnership with Pocatello Dietitians and will be held in Albion Hall on the ISU campus.

The free event will feature nutrition counseling, food demonstrations, physical activities for children and fueling and fitness tips from both ISU’s sports dietitian and a certified personal trainer. Families are encouraged to attend together as activities for all ages are planned.

Community members will have the opportunity to learn about nutrition across their lifespan as they visit with local registered dietetic nutritionists, many who are alumni of the ISU dietetic programs.

“This Nutrition Fair is unique and exciting because it is one place where kids, adults, and the young at heart can learn about nutrition through interactive and fun activities designed by nutrition experts,” said Jenifer Reader, president of Pocatello Dietitians and event co-coordinator.

Door prizes will be drawn hourly during the fair and will conclude by drawing the grand prize: a set of meals donated by Citrus Pear, valued at $200.

The collaborative effort is funded by a grant from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is the second nutrition fair organized by the groups. The first event in 2016 brought more than 100 people to ISU’s campus. Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad was in attendance that day to officially proclaim it as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist’s Day, and this year Pocatello City Council President Jim Johnston will read the same proclamation.

“This unique collaboration of undergraduate dietetic students, dietetic interns, and practicing registered dietetic nutritionists gives our students a valued opportunity to work closely together with so many of those already in the field,” Reader said.
