AMERICA250 AND BLACKFOOT125Twenty five years ago our nation drew together in compassion and resolve the day after the 9/ll attack. In doing so we sent a clear message that we are “still standing.” This week we are gathing again on Saturday, Sep. 12, at 10 a.m. at the Blackfoot High School Commons area as September’s America250 & Blackfoot125 event. Everyone is welcome to come for a light breakfast and to hear from locals that remember that day — from different perspectives. Come and learn how come “standing” is a significant and appropriate word.

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGSWednesday:

EISF Quilt Day — huge day. Starting at 10 a.m. with a Quilt Walk in the Needlecraft Building and at 11 a.m. they will cover Paper Piecing. After lunch they will talk about Paint-by-Number Quilting at 1 p.m., Quilting with Curves at 2 p.m., Quilt Blocks at 3 p.m. and Applique at 4 p.m.

Can you imagine writing a dictionary? Lew Allen Martin has done that for the Shoshone Language and he will be pesenting his dictionary, that focuses on pronunctiations, and answering questions at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

Thursday:

EISF Baking Day Demonstrations. Quick Meals are at 11 a.m., Baking from Scratch at 1 p.m., Focaccia Bread (yummm) at 2 p.m., Holiday Planning at 3 p.m. and Reed’s Dairy Baking Competition with Cream Cheese at 6 p.m.

Friday:

There is a Suicide Awareness Sunrise Ceremony & Walk in 73 W. Agency Road in Fort Hall. The sunrise ceremony will start at 6:30 a.m. and then there is an awareness and memorial walk or run. Participants are invited to bring pictures of loved ones that they have lost to hold as they walk. A pancake breakfast is provided afterwards. Remember September is Suicide

Prevention Awareness Month and that there is a 24 hour crisis line — 208-238-4000 for help when life feels too dark.

EISF History Day. DIY Floral Accessories at 1 p.m., Sacajawea History at 2 p.m. and a Nailed It Decorating Competition at 6 p.m.

Saturday:

Every other Saturday there is a Rustic Roots Market and this is the week! From 9 a.m. — 2 p.m. at 604 W. Hwy 39, there are homemade and homegrown products to ooh and ahh and buy.

America250 9/11 memorial event, “Still Standing”, is at 10 a.m. at the Blackfoot High School Commons Area. The school is located at 870 S. Fisher St. A light breakfast bar will be provided as we gather 25 years after the 9/11 attacks to remember and reaffirm that we are standing together.

Jay Ellis Memorial Lil’ Cowpoke Rodeo is at the EISF’s West Events Arena at 10 a.m. This rodeo that is for those 10 years old and younger, will include Stick Horse Ridin’, Ribbon Pullin’, Dummy Ropin’ and Barrel Racin’. They invite everyone to bring their kids and let them experience a rodeo first hand.

The Demolition Derby at the EISF is the annual Elks Lodge fundraiser which finances their lodge and all the service projects they do throughout the year. The mayhem starts at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 16:

The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce is holding a lunch and learn opportunity at the Elks Lodge at 12 p.m. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for networking and learning from vendors. CEO of Point 2 Point Marketing, Doug West, will be explaining his system to help business owners to build stronger companies through effective use of AI in forming business strategies. RIPPLESSurprise! Blackfoot has recycling. Well, at least for cans and pull tabs. The Moreland Elementary School has a purple and white bin in front of the school, located at 185 N 750 W, for pop cans, soup cans and any other cans that can be recycled. They ask that you put the cans in plastic bags, tie them closed well and put them in the bin. They use the money raised for school needs. Ridge Crest Elementary school gathers pop tabs and sends them to Primary Children’s Hospital to help parents stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

The Animal Shelter is also recycling cans to raise money for new turf. The cans can be dropped off at the shelter at 2397 Teeples Drive.
