Holy Week at St. Paul’s will be devoted to exploring the last four phrases that Jesus spoke during his last hours of life when he was on the cross. Every phrase was deliberately spoken and carries tremendous meaning and significance. These are the last words that the savior of the world, God in the flesh, wanted us to hear before he died, so it behooves us to dig deep into these seven phrases.

Each evening leading up to Good Friday we will gain a deeper understanding of the amazing work of salvation that Jesus accomplished for humanity and strengthen our walk with him. The Holy Week schedule is every evening from 6 to 7.

Monday: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46

Tuesday: “I thirst.” John 19:28

Wednesday: “It is finished.” John 19:30

Maundy Thursday: “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Luke 23:46. We will be having Holy Eucharist followed by washing of the feet and stripping of the altar. This is a very powerful service!

Good Friday: Stations of the Cross at noon. They tell the story of Jesus’ final journey to Calvary. They are used on Good Friday as a way to pray, reflect, and enter deeply into the mystery of the cross. The Stations are a spiritual pilgrimage. Each station represents a moment of Jesus’ passion from His condemnation to His burial. We then will cover each cross with purple cloth to signify that Jesus is the KING OF KINGS. Purple has always been the colors of kings and rulers. At 3 pm all the lights go off and the church remains closed and dark until Easter morning.

Easter Sunday: Community Sunrise Service 7:45 am. Easter Eucharistic Service 10 am. Egg hunt at 11:30 followed by lunch at 12 noon.
